Cloud tutors promise not to misuse your child's data. Ouma is built so there is no data to misuse: questions, mistakes, and voice are processed on the device and stay there. Privacy isn't a policy — it's the architecture.
After a one-time model download, Ouma needs no connection at all. Rural broadband gaps, flights, deployments, blocked school networks — the tutor simply doesn't care.
A separate grading pass — independent of the conversation — decides right and wrong, gives partial credit for partial understanding, and is designed to say “I'm not certain — let's look at it together” rather than bluff.
How it works
Ouma runs a real teaching cycle — the same one a good human tutor runs — and keeps it going session after session.
“Teach me fractions.” “Quiz me on the water cycle.” Any subject, any topic, spoken or typed — Ouma listens and talks back.
Short spoken lessons flow into conversational quizzes — no multiple-choice drudgery, just questions and real answers in your child's own words.
Answers are graded by an isolated pass that never sees the flattery of the conversation — so a wrong answer is gently called wrong, and partial understanding earns partial credit plus the missing piece.
Topic scores, trends, and session history — the picture you need to know it's working. And Ouma remembers: next session picks up where the last one left off.
Who it's for

Because the tutor is a genuinely large model — 8 billion parameters — running locally. That takes 8 GB of device memory. It's the price of an AI tutor that answers to you, not to a data center.
